Gorgeous summer dresses – Fun frocks for fashion rebels
Saturday, 11 May 2019 | Kate
For many years, people just didn't wear dresses. Frocks were something your mum wore, or your auntie. But there was a dress revolution in the early 2000s that saw the dress take off again, and it hasn't left the fashion stores ever since. It's OK to wear a dress. In fact a good stock of pretty summer dresses has become an everyday wardrobe essential. On the other hand, if you want to stand out like our rebellious customers do, you want dresses with personality, with unusual credentials and wonderfully quirky styling.
We regularly scour Nepal for new stock, beautiful clothes made with love and embellished with skill and creativity. If you want to take summer dresses in an entirely new direction this season, here's our feature on gorgeous summer dresses, fresh from your favourite Dragon!
Is it a hoodie? Is it a dress? It's both!
Click here to check out a hoodie-dress combination that's got our customers all excited. The sleeves, hood and hemline are all printed with a lovely Mantra, and there's a massive Mandala-style printed symbol on one hip. The basic black background delivers drama and the hood makes it as practical as it is attractive.
Everyone loves an A-line silhouette, flattering and easy to wear, and our signature 100% stretchy cotton is the star of the show. It washes really well, holds its shape and is wearable in so many ways all through the year. On its own in warm weather, with bare legs and sandals. Over thermals or a long sleeved T in colder weather, and worn with harems or jeans or leggings as well as a skirt underneath for a funky layered look. Awesome!
A halter neck dress in black, copper and turquoise
You'll find the most deliciously stylish halter neck summer dress here. The sun's shining, it's lovely and warm, and you know that a halter neck is always supremely flattering. All of which makes this one an essential buy. It's made from cool, soft, stretchy cotton but the patterns are the thing that makes it really cool, printed in a rich coppery brown and an exotic ocean turquoise, both of which glow against the dark background.
The symbols have meaning, too. The dress is studded with Mandalas, circular patterns that represent the universe in Hinduism and Buddhism. The halter bit ties neatly behind your neck, helping you get a great fit, and the gently-dropped waistline is highlighted thanks to a broad band of plain black, an excellent finishing touch.
A super-simple summer shift dress with rainbow patterns
Sometimes sheer, wonderful simplicity is best, and this is one of those times. A little black dress with a difference, this short, sweet T shirt-style dress features cool shift dress styling and comes with rainbow detailing... not too much, not too little, just perfect. As you can see it looks amazing worn alone but it's as versatile as most of our dresses, wearable over leggings or jeans or a skirt as a tunic, too.
It's plain from the back, with added colour at the front hem and sweet little vividly-coloured pockets too. A rounded neck and cap sleeves complete this very pretty picture.
Our long medieval style dress with bell sleeves
Push the boho boat out to sea and have an enjoyable journey with this ace Maid Marion-style summer dress, rich in steampunk styling and available in several fab shades. You don't just wear this dress, you float around in it looking serenely lovely, turning heads wherever you go and perfect for summer parties. Lots of cool cotton lace sits at the centre of this fab long summer dress, accentuating the design and flattering your shape.
The dress itself is also made from 100% cotton, this time slightly stretchy for comfort as well as creatively stonewashed and then embroidered over the top with swirls. What a confection it is!
Grab yourself summer dress or two and enhance your summer wardrobe for a fresh and funky 2019. You're going to look totally fabulous!
